Appreciating Ethnicities was a series of portraits that experimented the gaze of my culturally diverse friends. It focuses on how different people from different cultures perceive beauty differently. I based this project on 4 people including myself. I’m from Hong Kong and brought up in a chinese culture, however how I perceive beauty is different from the 4 other people who are from the UK, India, Nigeria. I interviewed all of them asking about their values and if their upbringing and culture/ religion change or affect the way they view things. I experimented this through the culturally diverse gaze. However, I discovered, although we had different upbringings, we all have similar opinions on certain beauty standards.
