Wearable Art

I was  inspired by the rococo period, especially by Marie Antoinette’s extravagant dresses. Therefore I wanted to learn more about the art of pattern making, sewing and clothes fabrication. To do so, I created my own twist of a rococo dress and introduced contemporary cut lines  with hints of rococo detail. The blue that I chose to use is the iconic Marie Antoinette blue. I also incorporated the idea of a soft corset inspired by real corsets from the period. The heart detail on the side of the shorts signifies the excessive detail and decorations rococo dresses have. The big bow at the back and the large organza skirt emphasises the over top extravagant nature of the rococo period. This project taught me that art resides in various forms, from oil painting to cloth making. I would like to continue to explore them all.
