New Avaritia

Drawing

This drawing is based on the seven deadly sins, influenced by the artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder. There are a total of seven prints, including Ira (Anger), Avarice (Avaritia), Envy (Invidia), Gluttony (Gula), Lust (Luxuria), Pride (Superbia) and Sloth (Desidia). I felt most passionate about Avaritia, meaning greed for wealth and material gain, as I believe that it is one of humanity’s most lethal characteristic traits that leads to self destruction. Therefore, I decided to appropriate Bruegel’s version and create one that represents the 21st century. Instead of print, I used pencil to demonstrate the temporal scale from past to present.
