Memento

Graphite Drawing and Oil Painting on Plexiglass

This project relates to a previous animation project I created, inspired by the objects, souvenirs and mementos used by  refugees and migrants who hold onto items that signify both their existence and their identity. Through research I decided to use 6 items, oil painted on plexiglass to represent a story of my own migration.  However, the art of this is not only the painting itself but also the shadow it creates when a light casts upon it. The shadows generate a visual connection between the objects, bridging the story together. On the contrary, when no light is casted onto the objects, no shadow can be seen which signifies the faded and forgotten soul when no attention or acknowledgement is given.
